This gourmet, hand-crafted cheese is an incredible taste experience for any cheese lover out there. In place of the rind there is a coating of coffee grounds and lavender, pressed into the cheese with canola oil creating a delectable result. The taste of coffee is subtle yet apparent at first bite with a mellow, floral hint from the lavender. It’s like two cheeses in one – at the rind the stronger coffee flavor gives a smoky depth, while in the center the tart flavor of the artisanal cheese has the merest hint of coffee. Our only suggestion for improvement would be an organic version. Available in other flavors.

Retails for $20 / lb.

Is Yumberry the new Acai which is the new Pomegranate? Yumberry is a deep red lychee-like fruit from China which is packed with antioxidants and nutrients – the bottle tells you to “FIGHT FREE RADICALS” and it seems this product which is 100% Yumberry can do just that… we love that it’s organic – there is also a natural version, which retails for less which the company states is pesticide free. This brand adds apple juice to the Yumberry and with a taste that is not too sweet, not too tart this product is a welcome addition to the expanding super-fruits family! Available in other flavors.

Retails for $3.59 / 12 fl oz organic or $3.00 / 12 fl oz natural.

You might think there isn’t enough room in the juice section of the supermarket for a new product, but Tropicana’s new Pure Indian River Grapefruit is a winner, so we want to squeeze it in! Sure, it’s just grapefruit juice and we were wondering what’s so exciting about that, but we were very pleasantly surprised by the just-squeezed flavor of this pasteurized pink grapefruit juice. There’s nothing added; nothing needed – it’s perfectly sweet and good value for money too. Available in other flavors.

Retails for $4.49 / liter.

np_040208_YammitAlmondBar1.jpgThis product is a HIT!

With so many energy bars to choose from the only way to make the choice less confusing is to read the list of ingredients. This product from Jay Robb has a refreshingly simple list of just a few organic and natural ingredients which will actually give your body the nutrients it needs to give you a boost in energy – we love it when a product actually does what it says it will! We do have to say, however that we find the packaging design somewhat off-putting – the dated design looks like some kind of faddy diet food and we think Jay Robb would do his great product more justice with a new design concept. Available in other flavors.

Retails for $2.48 / 57g bar.

np_040208_crunchy_ab.jpgFrankly we’re confused by this new product from MaraNatha – here’s why…nut butters are a staple at the health food store and are starting to become more mainstream (not counting peanut, of course) and MaraNatha is purportedly a healthful brand. So why on earth did they choose palm oil as the third ingredient in this almond butter instead of something more healthful? Palm oil is controversial due to its high saturated fat content and possible cholesterol raising or artery clogging factors – it also contains high levels of beneficial oleic acid and so it’s health status is still up for debate, but we think there are better options for more reasons than this one. We withheld judgment until after tasting of course, but here’s the second reason: first you taste sweetened, crunchy almonds and then the overpowering and long-lingering palm oil flavor takes over – which is somehow reminiscent of the deep fat fryer. Way to ruin good almond butter! Available in crunchy or smooth.

Retails for $5.99 - $7.99 / 12 oz.
